Everton transfer bids 'rejected' for Alex Iwobi and Chris Smalling

Everton have reportedly had late offers for Chris Smalling and Alex Iwobi rejected.

The Toffees are eager to bring in a central defender and winger before the deadline after a busy summer at Goodison Park.

Everton had wanted to sign Kurt Zouma permanently after an impressive loan last season but the Frenchman remains part of Frank Lampard's first-team plans at Chelsea .

Wilfried Zaha also emerged as a target but Crystal Palace are demanding at least £80m for the wantaway winger.

And that has led to Everton turning their attention to Smalling and Iwobi.

Sky Sports report a loan offer was made to Manchester United for defender Smalling.

But despite signing Harry Maguire in a record deal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still sees Smalling as an integral part of his plans.

The 29-year-old is seen as being too important to let go so late in the window.

Everton's offer for Alex Iwobi, believed to be worth £30m, has also been rejected by Arsenal .

The Nigerian international's future at the Emirates is unclear following the arrival of Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

Everton are said to have offered £25m plus add-ons for Iwobi, although Arsenal have rejected the bid, reports the Mail.

It is unclear if they will return with an improved offer before the transfer window closes on Thursday at 5pm.
