Everton to seek full Premier League explanation after Man City postponement

Everton will seek full information from the Premier League after the game against Manchester City was postponed on Monday.

The decision to play the match at a later date was taken by the Premier League after they received a request from the visiting side.

It is understood the Premier League board then met in the afternoon and, following medical advice, took the verdict to postpone the match.

Everton were then informed after the call had already been made, with the health and safety of everyone involved in the match taking the highest priority in this situation.

The Blues are understood to be seeking full information from the Premier League about the process leading up to the decision being made.

The club are also aware of the situation facing supporters who were due to attend Monday night's fixture.

Everton are one of the only clubs in the Premier League who are still allowed to have 2,000 fans in their stadiums, as the Liverpool City Region has stayed in Tier 2 of the Government's local restrictions.

Recent fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have all had fans in attendance - making their first visits to Goodison Park after a long period of behind-closed-doors matches.

However, those local tiers are set to be reviewed on December 30th, with cases across Merseyside continuing to rise.

Take our 30-second Everton transfer survey and let us know what Carlo Ancelotti needs to do in the January window.

In the eventuality that Liverpool was to be placed in a higher tier, fans would no longer be allowed in Goodison - meaning the stadium will have held its last match in front of supporters for the foreseeable future.

Everton are continuing to monitor this fluid situation and will update fans in due course on what they can do.

Unfortunately, if the city does move to a tier with higher restrictions in the near future, those supporters who were successful in the Man City ballot would miss out on their return to Goodison for now.

However, if the club were still able to host fans at the beginning of January, then it's likely they will encourage those who had tickets for the Man City game to apply for the next available match - which would be the FA Cup tie against Rotherham on January 9th.

Following that, the next fixture at Goodison would be the visit of Leicester City in the Premier League on January 27th.

In that time, the local restriction tiers could well have been reviewed again, which could perhaps place the attendance of fans to that match in doubt.

Conversations will continue to take place at Everton the best best course of action, and fans will be updated when news arrives.

As it stands, supporters will next visit Goodison Park on Friday when Everton welcome West Ham United (5:30pm kick-off).
