Everton to request full disclosure from Premier League over Man City postponement

Everton have confirmed that they will be seeking a full disclosure from the Premier League as to why tonight's game against Man City was postponed.

The Goodison Park clash was postponed with under six hours' notice after a Covid-19 outbreak was reported in City's squad.

After Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus tested positive for the virus last week, City today received further positive tests and requested to the Premier League that the Everton match be postponed.

The Premier League board subsequently agreed to the decision on grounds of medical advice - yet Everton are yet to receive the league's reasoning.

In a statement, the Toffees expressed their regret at the game being postponed and revealed they would be seeking clarification as to why it was not able to go ahead.

The statement said: "Everton Football Club regret the postponement of tonight’s match against Manchester City - not only for the 2,000 fans who would have been attending, but for supporters on Merseyside and across the world.

"Our players were prepared for the game, as were both the team staff and everyone at Goodison. Matchday is the most important date in our calendar. And this was a big one.

"Whilst Everton will always have public safety uppermost, we will be requesting full disclosure of all the information that Manchester City provided to the Premier League so the club can be clear on why this decision was taken."

The status of City's upcoming games are currently unclear due to the outbreak.

City have confirmed that their training ground will be shut for a period of time in order to stop the spread of the virus but there is yet to be an announcement regarding Sunday's trip to Chelsea or next week's EFL Cup semi-final with Manchester United.
