Everton to discover EFL Trophy opponents after rejecting invite last season

Everton will discover who they will play in the new season's EFL Trophy, today.

The Blues have re-entered the competition after deciding to turn down an invite last season due to scheduling issues.

Everton are to learn which three Football League clubs they will face in the group stages of the Papa John's Trophy when the draw takes place at 4:30pm.

The Blues opted not to enter an under-21s side last season because the fixtures clashed with international breaks which, the club felt, would have left them fielding sides that may have struggled to be competitive.

But Everton are back in the competition this season and are joined in the Northern section of the draw by Leeds, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Wolves.

The Football League clubs have already been drawn into the groups A-H, with Everton and the other Premier League sides becoming the fourth team in each of those.
