Everton team news for Bournemouth as Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye decisions made

Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye both start for Everton after winning their fitness battles following injuries suffered last weekend.

The midfield pair return to the side after missing the midweek cup match and overcoming ankle and quad injuries respectively. They are part of nine changes to the starting line-up from the 4-1 loss to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup. Dwight McNeil comes in for Anthony Gordon while Neal Maupay also starts.

Frank Lampard also appears to have reverted back to his preferred 4-3-3 formation having played five at the back in that fixture. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had already been ruled out with hamstring, shoulder and knee issues so the availability of Onana and Gueye, both of whom are heading to the World Cup, is a welcome boost for a massive game ahead of the six week break in the domestic calendar. Everton could finish the weekend as high as 11th or as low as the relegation zone depending on results.

There are few surprises at the extent of the starting XI overhaul after the disappointment of the midweek defeat at the Vitality Stadium. Among the other changes are the return of Jordan Pickford and Conor Coady in their final game before heading to Qatar with the England World Cup squad. James Tarkowski and Vitalii Mykolenko also come back with Patterson the only survivor of the midweek back line. The decision means this will be Patterson's first league start since his injury over the most recent international break.

Further forward, Alex Iwobi completes the midfield and Maupay leads the frontline, supported by Tuesday night goalscorer Demarai Gray and Anthony Gordon, who retains his starting place. The selection represents two changes from the line-up that started against Leicester City last Saturday - Maupau and Patterson for Calvert-Lewin and Seamus Coleman. Under-21s Tom Cannon and Stanley Mills make the bench after both earned minutes in the Carabao Cup before starring in the U21s' win over PSG on Wednesday.
