But playmaker James Rodriguez then appeared to suffer an injury blow in the warm-up which meant Alex Iwobi replaced him in the starting line-up and Joao Virginia was added to the bench.
The Blues boss originally kept faith with the starting XI which kicked-off against Arsenal last week at the Emirates.
Michael Keane returned to the matchday squad after missing that game with injury but is on the bench as Ancelotti continued with Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate at the back.
Jordan Pickford, who pulled off a fine save in the dying stages at Arsenal, was named in goal with Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne joined Godfrey and Holgate at the back.
Allan anchored the midfield with Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson in support.
Richarlison and James Rodriguez were scheduled to start upfront with Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Iwobi replaced the Colombian.
Robin Olsen was selected on the bench alongside Keane, Fabian Delph, Josh King, Yerry Mina, Iwobi, Bernard and Tom Davies.
Ancelotti named the same starting XI for the opening three league matches of the season but had chopped and changed in every other game until tonight.
