Everton sweat on Fabian Delph fitness as he adds to midfield injury woes

Everton will be hoping that Fabian Delph doesn't add to their midfield injury woes after he withdrew from the England squad with a hamstring problem.

The 29-year-old, who has 20 caps, was recalled to the national team for the first time since his summer transfer from Manchester City and was in line to be selected for the forthcoming matches against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.

However, with the Blues now facing what manager Marco Silva has already described as a “must win” game at home to West Ham United on October 19 – following four consecutive Premier League defeats that have seen them drop into the relegation zone – they will be hoping that Delph's decision to pull out is only a precautionary decision.

Everton have only just nursed Andre Gomes back to fitness with the Portuguese midfielder coming off the bench against Burnley on Saturday for his first appearance since picking up a rib injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 1.

Meanwhile, another summer signing, Jean-Philippe Gbamin , has yet to return to team training after hurting his right quadriceps at Finch Farm back in August.
