Everton suspend player pending police investigation

Everton have suspended a player pending a cop probe.

The Merseyside club have not revealed which player or what he is being investigated for, the Daily Mirror reports.

A statement has now been released on the Toffee's website.

It reads: "Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Rafa Benitez and his squad are currently in training ahead of a major season.

The Spaniard replaced Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach at Goodison Park.

The team are due to fly across the Atlantic to America to take part in the Florida Cup.

Everton's first fixture is due to take place on July 26 against Millonaros , before a fixture against either Arsenal or Inter Milan.

Their final warm-up will then be against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 7, before the Premier League kicks off the following weekend.
