Everton suffer major injury blow with Jean-Philippe Gbamin set to be out until 2021

Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s injury curse has struck again, with the forgotten Everton midfielder likely to be sidelined for yet more months.

The £25million summer signing played just TWO games for the Goodison club at the start of the season.

Purchased by ex-boss Marco Silva with the intention of making the Ivory Coast international a lynchpin at the heart of the Toffees midfield, he was stuck down with a serious thigh problem, which sidelined him until the turn of the year following surgery.

But he suffered several setbacks on his return, and was again ruled out through related problems before playing again.

Now, after finally returning to training, he has been struck down with an Achilles injury.

Everton fear he could be sidelined for many months with the issue, but will be wait for further tests and results of a scan at a Merseyside hospital before offering a timescale for his recovery.

It is a huge blow for the Blues, who were confident the Ivory Coast international would return to play a part in the remaining nine games of the season, when the Premier League resumes on June 17.

It could also affect their transfer plans going forward, with boss Ancelotti desperate for midfield reinforcements.

He now may decide he needs strengthening in that area, with the odds against a quick recovery for the former Mainz player.
