Everton striker Salomon Rondon target of transfer interest but clock is ticking

Salomon Rondon is the subject of interest from Sharjah FC as the side look to strengthen their attacking options.

The United Arab Emirates club are keen on taking the 33-year-old on a similar path to former teammate Allan, who left the Blues for Pro League rivals Al Wahda this week. However, while several days of the UAE's transfer window remain, Rondon looks likely to stay with Everton at this stage, the ECHO understands.

The Venezuela international's two-year deal comes to an end next summer and his opportunities have been limited so far this season. But Frank Lampard has still sought to involve him in the first team amid Sharjah's interest and brought him off the bench in the 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.

Rondon arrived at Goodison Park on the final day of the summer 2021 transfer window. Signed on a free by then manager Rafa Benitez, the move signalled his return to the Premier League after a stint in China with Dalian. He had previously played for West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United.

He has scored once across 25 Premier League appearances, though he added a brace against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup fifth round in March. His chances have been limited under Lampard and he has only started once in the league this season despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin's injury leaving the Blues short of another recognised first team striker until the signing of Neal Maupay.

Everton have allowed a number of players to leave in the late stages of the summer, most recently Allan on a permanent deal confirmed on Tuesday. Jean-Phillipe Gbamin, Dele Alli and Andre Gomes have each secured loan deals after it appeared they were not central to Lampard's plans.

With the UAE's transfer window still open, Rondon has attracted interest from Sharjah. They are currently top of the Pro League having secured four wins from their opening four games.
