Everton striker Cenk Tosun injury update as Blues learn extent of knee problem

Cenk Tosun will miss the start of pre-season training because of a knee injury - but the striker does not need an operation.

The Everton forward sustained the problem on international duty for Turkey in a game with Greece last week.

Some reports emerging from Tosun's homeland suggested the 27-year-old had suffered cruciate ligament damage that could have left him sidelined for several months.

The £27m hitman has escaped the need to go under the knife but is set to miss the beginning of the summer schedule because of the injury.

Tosun will be among the players returning to Finch Farm for the start of pre-season training on Monday, July 1 but he will step-up his rehabilitation and so is certain to miss Everton's trip to Kenya at the end of that week.

It is hoped he will be fit to play some part in the Blues' warm-up games before the beginning of the new campaign.
