Everton striker Cenk Tosun breaks his silence after injury blow ends his Crystal Palace spell

Cenk Tosun has vowed to come back stronger after sustaining a serious knee injury that has cut his loan spell at Crystal Palace short.

The Turkish striker has left Palace to return to Everton after sustaining an injury to his knee in training this week, with the 28-year-old now set to undergo surgery next week.

The news has come as a blow to Palace , who have just Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha as their options in attack, with strikers Connor Wickham and Alexander Sorloth currently out on loan.

Tosun made just five appearances for the Eagles, scoring one goal in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City, but Palace chairman Steve Parish has sent a message to the striker following his exit.

Palace also wished him well in a statement confirming his return to Everton, with the club stating: "Cenk Tosun has returned to Everton and will undergo surgery next week after sustaining an injury to his knee during training earlier this week.

"Tosun completed a temporary move to Selhurst Park two months ago. The 28-year-old played five times for Roy Hodgson’s team but his time in south London has been cut short.

"The player will continue his rehabilitation under the care of Everton’s medical staff following the surgical procedure.

"Everyone at Crystal Palace wishes Cenk the best with his recovery."

Meanwhile, in a message via his Twitter account, Tosun has broken his silence on the injury, with a message for his followers.

His message, which was posted in Turkish, read: "Sometimes not everything goes as you want in life. But; the important thing is not to fall on the ground, but to stand up after falling down. No one should doubt that I will return from this injury in the strongest possible way."

Tosun is set to miss the rest of the season with his injury and his involvement at the European Championships this summer is also in doubt, although the timeframe for his recovery is yet to be confirmed.
