Everton stars set to be affected as FIFA discuss crucial transfer decision

FIFA have announced they will consider steps to potentially resolve player contract worries and registration periods amid the coronavirus outbreak.

It was announced on Friday that the Premier League would be suspended until at least April 3, joining a host of top divisions around the world in bringing football to a halt as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

There is still uncertainty around how domestic and European campaigns will come to a close this year, with the 20 clubs in England's top division set for discussions over the phone on Thursday.

One potential issue that has been raised concerns players set to be out of contract at the end of the 2019/20 term.

But the FIFA Council on Wednesday announced a 'FIFA-Confederations working group', with one task being to assess whether temporary dispensations need to be made regarding registration regulations and contracts to protect both player and club.

This is due to a number of player contracts being due to expire on June 30th - a date which the majority of domestic leagues potentially could still be playing the current campaign.

The group will also assess the economic impact faced by "various football stakeholders" to analyse if a support fund at global level would be required and how support measures could be defined.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “This exceptional situation requires exceptional measures and decisions. This crisis impacts the entire world and that is why solutions need to take into account the interests of all stakeholders around the world.

"We have shown again today a spirit of cooperation, solidarity and unity. These must be our key drivers moving forward and I would like to thank all the Confederations Presidents for their positive contributions and efforts.

"FIFA will keep in close contact with all stakeholders to assess and take the necessary steps to deal with the variety of issues we are facing. I count on the support of the whole football community moving forward.”

Everton have four players due to be out-of-contract in the summer in Oumar Niasse, Cuco Martina, Shani Tarashaj and Luke Garbutt - while a number of players both out on loan and spending temporary time with the Blues could also be affected by the current rules.
