Everton starlet's progression continues as Marco Silva hands exciting youngster first team training chance

Anthony Gordon has been handed the opportunity to train with Everton’s first-team after impressing in pre-season.

Gordon travelled with the senior set-up to face Werder Bremen in the final summer friendly but did not come off the bench.

The 18-year-old broke into David Unsworth’s under-23 team last term and featured 14 times on the way to Premier League 2 glory.

He started in their defence of the title against Leicester City on Monday night and Unsworth explained it was important to give the starlet minutes after working with Marco Silva.

“He’s in desperate need of a game,” the former caretaker manager said. “He’s not played as many games because he’s been training with the first-team.

“He tired a little bit but showed glimpses and flashes of sheer brilliance.

"What we need to do is get the ball to him in dangerous areas more often and he can show his quality.

“He certainly needed the game tonight and that will go some way to improving his fitness as well.”

Lewis Gibson and Dennis Adeniran have also been involved with the senior set-up with Gordon.

Adeniran started in midfield alongside Beni Baningime and Nathangelo Markelo on Monday and Silva could include one of them in his matchday squad against Watford.

Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph have both suffered injuries while Morgan Schneiderlin is suspended.
