Everton star Richarlison sends perfect message to Paul Merson

Richarlison has seemingly responded to Paul Merson's pre-season comments about the forward with a cheeky tweet.

The Sky Sports pundit drew the ire of Everton fans across social media by claiming that the Blues overpaid for the Brazilian in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old made the move from Watford in a £40m deal, only a year after joining the Vicarage Road club from his home country.

Everton fans identify where Liverpool lost Premier League title and celebrate with new chant

"I think that's [Richarlison signing] what's spoiled the window if I'm being perfectly honest," Merson said.

"I think that happened so early, and at £40m that set the benchmark. Teams then have gone, 'Well if you're getting £40m for him I want £60m, £70m, £80m, £90m and £100m.

"I think that's the problem."

Richarlison went on to score 13 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for Everton across 2018/19, which was a massive improvement on his figures with Watford.

Everton verdict - Easy for minds to be elsewhere but Marco Silva's side give Blues belief for next season

The pundit recently admitted he was wrong about the Brazilian, but that didn't stop a cheeky tweet from the youngster as the campaign drew to a close today.

Richarlison's tweet translates to, "A big hug," with emojis symbolising him laughing.

The 22-year-old sat out with injury on Sunday as Everton drew 2-2 away to Tottenham in north London.

But at least there was a light-hearted end to this back-and-forth!
