Everton star Andre Gomes hit with ban after accepting FA charge

Everton's Andre Gomes has accepted a charge of violent conduct following an incident in the match at Fulham on Saturday.

The Blues midfielder has been hit with a three-match ban.

He will now miss the upcoming games against Manchester United at Goodison, away to Crystal Palace and at home to Burnley.

Gomes will be available for selection again for the final clash of the Premier League season at Tottenham Hotspur.

The incident in question occurred in the 95th minute of Everton's 2-0 defeat at Fulham and involved the Portuguese international putting in a late tackle on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Replays showed that the Blues midfielder caught Mitrovic late with his studs, in an incident not seen by match official Lee Probert.

"This followed an incident that was not seen by the match officials but caught on video during the 95th minute of the Premier League fixture against Fulham on Saturday [13/04/2019]."

The challenge caused some controversy following Saturday's match, with Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright speaking out on the issue.

Wright said: “I can’t understand it. I’ve never seen him do that since he’s been here. He’s been a terrific player. But they’ll probably look at that and he might get in trouble for it.”
