Everton star Andre Gomes charged by FA for Aleksandar Mitrovic incident against Fulham

Andre Gomes has been charged by the FA with violent conduct for an incident involving Aleksandar Mitrovic in Everton's 2-0 loss to Fulham.

The incident occurred in the 95th minute of the match and involved the Portuguese international putting in a late tackle on the striker.

Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma would be £40m bargains and Everton need to build around them

Replays showed that the Blues midfielder appeared to have caught Mitrovic late with his studs, in an incident not seen by match official Lee Probert.

Gomes has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge.

If the charge is upheld, the midfielder could face a three-match ban which would rule him out of upcoming fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Burnley.

The Portuguese international's challenge caused some controversy following Saturday's match, with Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright speaking out on the issue.

Wright said: “I can’t understand it. I’ve never seen him do that since he’s been here. He’s been a terrific player. But they’ll probably look at that and he might get in trouble for it.”
