Everton Stadium included as host venue in UK and Ireland's Euro 2028 bid
Everton Stadium will be one of the venues in the UK and Ireland's preliminary bid to host the European Championships in 2028.
The Blues are scheduled to move into their new £500million home in the 2024/25 season and the ground on the Liverpool waterfront at Bramley-Moore Dock is part of attempts to old the tournament in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland after England and Scotland both hosted some games – including the Wembley final – along with several other nations in latest edition of the competition held last summer after being delayed by a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although Goodison Park was one of the venues when England hosted the World Cup for the only time to date in 1966, hosting three group games, a quarter-final and semi-final, it missed out to Anfield for Euro ’96. The UK and Ireland bid – up against Turkey – also includes Wembley, Old Trafford, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London Stadium, City of Manchester Stadium (Etihad), St James’ Park, Villa Park and Sunderland’s Stadium of Light from England; Dublin Arena and Croke Park from Ireland; Casement Park Stadium from Northern Ireland; Hampden Park from Scotland and the National Stadium of Wales.

Everton loanee Lewis Dobbin gets glowing endorsement after perfect response to Liverpool agony
Everton youngster Lewis Dobbin has been hailed for his bravery after bouncing back from his penalty miss at Anfield with a spectacular goal for Derby County. Dobbin, 19, was the last of third of three Rams players to see his effort saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher before Harvey Elliott slotted home the winner in their Carabao Cup tie last Wednesday.
However, six days on he recovered from that disappointment by smashing in a volley from outside the area for Derby’s fourth goal in their 5-0 FA Cup first round replay victory over National League Torquay United at Pride Park. Stoke-on-Trent-born Dobbin, who made five first team appearances for Everton last season, joined the League One side on a season long loan on August 3.
Rather than spearheading the attack, Dobbin has been playing as a support striker or winger for the East Midlanders and the goal against Torquay doubled his tally to two in 23 games so far this term having previously netted in the Papa John’s Trophy against Mansfield Town – Everton Under-21s next opponents in the competition at Goodison Park on Wednesday, November 30 (7pm). Derby County head coach Paul Warne was in good spirits when describing the wonder-strike and told RamsTV : “I didn’t see it! No I did, that’s a lie."
