Everton have had a very productive few months, strengthening their squad throughout the transfer window before winning their opening six games of the new season to head into the international break sitting atop the Premier League table.
Carlo Ancelotti did most of his business early, with Niels Nkounkou, Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure all arriving in time for the first weekend of the season.
However, there was also late action on deadline day with Ben Godfrey joining from Norwich City and Sweden international goalkeeper Robin Olsen arriving on loan from Roma.
Allan has taken the number 6 shirt left vacant by Phil Jagielka’s 2019 departure, while Rodriguez has inherited Djibril Sidibe’s number 19 and Doucoure becomes the second successive central midfielder to wear 16 with previous incumbent James McCarthy now at Crystal Palace.
Nkounkou’s number 18 shirt was last worn by summer departure Morgan Schneiderlin, while Maarten Stekelenburg’s exit has freed up 22 for Godfrey.
There have been changes elsewhere, too: Jonjoe Kenny will take the number 2 shirt following his return from loan, with Mason Holgate switching from 2 to 4, and Anthony Gordon’s greater involvement under Ancelotti has been reflected in a switch from 42 to 24.
Two other returning loanees have new numbers. Mo Besic will wear 30 this season after the shirt was vacated by Cuco Martina, while Yannick Bolasie has taken over Oumar Niasse’s 29 after the Senegal striker’s exit.
