Everton signings James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have helped Dominic Calvert-Lewin reach new level

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has explained the difference in Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season, following his blistering start to the season.

The 23-year-old has been in spectacular form this season, netting in all four of his Premier League appearances this season including a hat-trick against West Brom.

That form has earned recognition on the international stage, with Calvert-Lewin handed his debut with England for Thursday night's friendly against Wales.

With over 100 appearances for Everton, Calvert-Lewin isn't a new name on the block but Wright believes Carlo Ancelotti's summer signings have been the catalyst for his rejuvenation.

“Goals, the goals he’s added to his game. You think of all the times they were talking about how they have to replace Lukaku, they didn’t do it, but all of that time, he’s been playing in the team," he told ITV.

"People are constantly saying he doesn’t score enough goals, he doesn’t link-up well enough. Now you’ve got James Rodriguez with him, Richarlison with him, Allan and Doucoure - and you’re getting the ball into the place where he does his best work.

"He’s one-touch finishing in the box, because the ball’s going in there all of the time. He’s got a team that knows he’s up there and he’s going to score.

" He’s full of confidence and he’s right to get his chance in the England setup today.”
