Everton Signing Carlo Ancelotti would send real statement but he's yet to do one key thing

The Royal Blue podcast team have met to discuss Everton's on-going search for a new manager.

Nearly a week has passed since the sacking of Marco Silva and with the club keen on making an appointment as "swiftly" as possible, we take a look at the situation.

Host Phil Kirkbride is joined by Dave Prenitce, Sam Carroll and Gav Buckland to reflect on , the prospect of Carlo Ancelotti getting the job and the timeframe the club should be working to.

Prentice is hugely in favour of a move for Ancelotti, saying: “If there's a top quality manager available that Everton could appoint – and there is after what happened in Naples last night – then Everton would be silly not to make an appointment as quickly as humanely possible if Carlo Ancelotti wants to come to Merseyside.

“ . We are led to believe Arsenal are not quite as enthusiastic about bringing him in, which baffles me, because he is one of the best coaches in the world.

“But if any A-list coach like that is available, we would want him in our football club sooner rather than later.

“If that's not possible then I don't see any reason why Duncan couldn't continue for several weeks yet.”

Carroll backs up those comments, believing Ancelotti in the Goodison dugout would be a statement of intent, adding: “If Farhad Moshiri is still keen on building his vision at Everton then I don't see why he wouldn't back a new manager. The club have got to change approach sooner or later.

“It would be amazing, as Evertonians of my age who have never seen us win anything, to have Carlo Ancelotti as the manager.

“It would be a show of ambition and send out a real message. I don't think he would be here for 10 years but imagine him walking into the dressing room – there would be no messing around.

“Is he known for building squads and projects? No, probably not. But he is a proven winner and one of the best options out there for us.”

Buckland, however, has cautioned against a move for the Italian despite a glittering CV as a manager.

“I will lay my cards on the table – I wouldn't want Carlo Ancelotti,” he said.

“I appreciate his CV, it's a fantastic CV.

“He's always managed big clubs and his last 20 years of being a manager have been characterised by managing big players and massaging egos in the big moments in the big games.

“What he hasn't done is create an atmosphere of bringing through young talent and seeing then develop through the squad.

“It would be interesting to see how Marcel Brands would react over the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti because, in many respects, he is the complete opposite of what Marcel wants to do as director of football.

“There is no disputing his CV, his reputation in the game and what he would do from a PR perspective for the club, but it goes back to what our football strategy is and I don't see Marcel Brands and Carlo Ancelotti fitting.”
