Everton signing Ben Godfrey handed debut against Liverpool after Seamus Coleman injury blow

New Everton signing Ben Godfrey was handed a chance to make his debut for his new club in unfortunate circumstances at Goodison Park as Seamus Coleman was withdrawn with an injury concern.

Coleman played the opening 31 minutes of the match before going down with what appeared to be a hamstring complaint.

After medical staff treated him on the field of play, it was decided that the full-back could not continue, with Godfrey coming on in his place.

Godfrey was signed from relegated Norwich City during the summer and was given the difficult task of facing up to the dangerous Sadio Mane.

Most comfortable at the heart of the defence, the position he is likely to occupy most often going forward for Everton, it was not the way in which Godfrey would have anticipated his debut coming.

Everton must now wait and see the extent of Coleman's injury worry.
