Everton show support for Black Lives Matter movement

Everton have shown their support for the 'Black Lives Matter' movement on social media following the death of George Floyd in America.

Mr Floyd, who passed away on May 25, was unarmed when a video appeared to show police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck while detaining the 46-year-old in Minneapolis.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and three more police officers who were responsible for his care in custody have since been sacked, while protests have gripped the United States of America in following days.

The death of Mr Floyd has sparked a movement not just across the Atlantic, but worldwide on social media - with many organisations and people in prominent positions speaking out on racism and the treatment of the black community.

Everton have now shown their support for the Black Lives Matter movement on Tuesday with a simple and effective message.

The club posted a video of a banner fans displayed for Moise Kean for the club's match against Manchester City, after the striker was subjected to racial abuse during his final months in Italy.

The banner simply read, "No al razzismo" - translated as, "No to racism".

The club shared a video of the banner using the Black Lives Matter hashtag along with the caption, "Together We Are Stronger".

Liverpool landmarks will be turning purple in solidarity and remembrance of Mr Floyd on Tuesday, with Mayor Joe Anderson saying : "Our city has always stood up for justice @jacob_frey so Liverpool will stand with you and Minneapolis during these difficult days.

"We will light our buildings purple on Tuesday to remember George Floyd and show communities, everywhere, that justice must be seen."
