Everton share worrying Jess Park injury update as England World Cup fears build

Everton forward Jess Park is set to miss the rest of the campaign with a shoulder injury.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues on a season-long loan from Manchester City last summer and has enjoyed a sublime spell at Walton Hall Park, notching five goals and five assists in 22 appearances this term. Park picked up the injury in training ahead of Everton's brusing 7-0 defeat to reigning Women's Super League champions Chelsea last week.

And the club has now confirmed she will not feature again for the Blues this season and will instead return to parent club Manchester City.

In a statement on Friday, Everton said: "Park had played a significant role during her loan spell with Everton. The England international has subsequently returned to Manchester City where she will continue her rehabilitation.

"Everyone at Everton would like to thank Jess for her commitment during her spell with the Club and wishes her a swift recovery."

It's a big blow for Brian Sorensen's side, who are currently sixth in the table with three games still to play. The news will also be a concern for England boss Sarina Wiegman, who has seen her squad ravaged by injury in recent months and is set to name her final 23-player squad for this summer's Women's World Cup in the coming weeks.

Park made her England debut last November, scoring just 79 seconds after coming on as a substitute against Japan. The Lionesses will travel to Australia and New Zealand in July where they will bid to add a World Cup trophy to their cabinet following last summer's historic triumph at the EUROs.
