Everton 'set to escape punishment' for refusing to release Richarlison for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers

Everton are set to escape punishment from FIFA after refusing to release Richarlison for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers this month.

The club v country row rumbles on with a number of Premier League clubs facing sanctions from the governing body.

Reports emerged this week stating Brazil are one of the nations asking for disciplinary action to be taken against clubs that have refused to release players for international duty.

FIFA will be asked to enforce its five-day ban, which runs after the international break finishes.

Everton, though, will not be referred to FIFA by the Brazilian Football Confederation due to a 'good working relationship' with the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Brazil's agreement to cancel Richarlison's call-up came as a result of the 24-year-old playing in both the Copa America and Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer.

The forward won Olympic gold with his nation last month and returned in time for the first game of the Premier League campaign, exemplifying incredible commitment to both club and country.

Richarlison was on the scoresheet in the Blues' season opener against Southampton on August 14 and started against both Leeds United and Brighton before the international break.

Brazil will, however, push on with sanctions against other Premier League clubs including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Leeds.

The Premier League issued a collective stance last week that clubs would not be releasing players for the upcoming international matches in red-list countries.

Current regulations mean players would have to isolate for 10 days upon their return, which would've seen them miss a number of games in that time.

FIFA decided not to extend its temporary release exception for players required to quarantine on their return from international duty and no exemption was granted by the UK government due to ongoing public health concerns, which left clubs with little choice.
