Everton set pre-season return timescale as Carlo Ancelotti makes transfer plea

Everton's players are expected to begin pre-season training in mid-August after the start dates were confirmed for the new Premier League campaign.

The 2020-21 season will start on September 12 and finish on May 23 after an agreement was reached at the latest shareholders' meeting on Friday.

Everton finish the 2019-20 campaign on Sunday, at Goodison, when they welcome relegation threatened Bournemouth and have just seven weeks before the new season kicks-off.

Carlo Ancelotti hopes to have his transfer targets signed in time to begin the preparations for the new campaign, with Everton looking for a centre-half, a central midfielder and a right-winger.

But the club still need to offload a number of unwanted players to help the Everton manager, and director of football Marcel Brands, reinvest the funds into strengthening the squad.

"I think the best scenario is to have the new players for when we start (pre-season) in the middle of August," said Ancelotti, who will present a list of players he hopes to sign at a meeting with the board next week.

"This is the best scenario but I understand that the market is so long so maybe this cannot happen immediately. It will be important to be able to reach the right targets."
