Everton set for pre-season change as friendlies being explored

Everton are expected to base their entire pre-season at Finch Farm this summer and play 'local' friendly games.

The Blues' squad will return to their Halewood training base in mid-August to begin preparations for the 2020-21 season.

It was confirmed, last week, that the new Premier League campaign will begin on September 12 - just seven weeks after the end of the 2019-20 season.

Carlo Ancelotti has now given his players until the middle of next month to rest before an intense four-week build-up to the new campaign which, it is expected, will be based at Finch Farm with no plans to take the team away.

And the ECHO has been told that the club are looking into arranging some behind-closed-doors friendlies against Football League sides, with the opposition likely to be selected from teams in the North and North West.

Before the coronavirus crisis struck, Everton were looking into the possibility of spending some of their pre-season in the United States, with Miami mentioned as a possible destination.

But the Blues now look certain to stay at Finch Farm to get themselves ready for Ancelotti's first full campaign in charge

Everton's under-23s are due back to pre-season training on Monday with the expectation that their season will also begin at the same time as the Premier League.
