Everton seek Jean-Philippe Gbamin injury advice with surgery still not ruled out

Everton are yet to rule out Jean-Philippe Gbamin needing surgery on his injured quadriceps.

The summer signing looks set to be out for “at least” eight weeks after sustaining a tendon issue in his right leg.

Gbamin picked up the problem when taking a shot during a training session at Finch Farm last week and the Blues are now taking advice from experts around Europe as to the best course of treatment.

And Everton are unable to dismiss the idea that the £25m man will have to go under the knife to solve the problem.

“Let's see, it is not something we are sure about,” Silva told the ECHO.

“We have two different ways and we will take the final decision in the next few days to be able to start the player's recovery and get him back as fast as we can.”

Silva says initial assessments said the injury was not too bad but further investigations revealed Gbamin would, in fact, be sidelined for an extended period.

“We didn't expect something so serious, something so bad but in football this can happen,” the Everton boss added.

“I watched some matches at the weekend and the same injury happened with one or two guys. It is something that can happen unfortunately.”
