Everton's transfer priority clear with one month to go as Marcel Brands gets set for toughest challenge yet

There is now just one month of the transfer window remaining and for Everton, things have finally taken flight.

The signings of Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure will add quality to Carlo Ancelotti's squad and underline Everton's ambition under the legendary Italian boss.

But what needs to be done next?

Our writers have taken a look.

Space needs to be made in Everton squad

Adam Jones: Well, just a short amount of time ago it looked like Everton might be set to do the majority of their incoming business in this last month of the transfer window.

It's fair to say that's not the case now.

What a week it's been for the Blues in terms of getting players through the door and it's made things pretty clear for the final month of the window.

The club needs to clear out some of the players who just aren't going to get minutes in the coming season.

Whether that's selling players or sending others out on loan, space needs to be made for the trio of incoming transfers and, potentially, any more players that could come through the door.

A back-up left back could still be useful, while the situation for the other full back slot still has rumours surrounding it too.

So a couple of savvy incomings shouldn't be ruled out, but you've got to think the main focus is clearing up this wage bill and getting some unwanted or unneeded players out of this squad.

There's a month to go, so there's still time.

Time to clear out dead wood

Connor Dunn: The first priority for Everton was of course be completing a trio of stellar signings in the form of Allan from Napoli, James Rodriguez from Real Madrid and Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford.

Those transfers will dramatically improve the Blues midfield but in turn it will leave Carlo Ancelotti with a huge surplus of players in the engine room.

A second priority for the club, therefore, is to remove players from the wage bill and clear out dead wood as the new 2020/21 season gets underway.

In the centre of the park alone, the likes of  Fabian Delph, Tom Davies, Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott, Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson could all be looking over their shoulders.

Should Everton receive a serious offer for any of those players, it could well be time to say goodbye.

Yannick Bolasie and Sandro Ramirez are two more who the club should prioritise in their list of players to transfer away from Goodison Park.

Elsewhere a right-back is needed to provide back-up to, or possibly even take the place of, Seamus Coleman with a busy campaign upcoming.

What do Everton need to do in the final month of the transfer window? Let us know in the comments below.

Hard work begins now for Marcel Brands

Joe Rimmer: Everton have just one overriding issue to solve with one month of the transfer window remaining.

And thankfully, due to the signing of talented trio Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Rodriguez and Allan, it's not getting quality through the door.

Indeed, now the very difficult task begins of trimming a bloated squad and difficult wage bill.

A number of players sit idle, eating into Everton's budget.

Sandro, Yannick Bolasie and Mohamed Besic are all available, with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott and possibly even Bernard players who could be moved on should suitable offers arrive.

That might be easier said than done, but that's the task Marcel Brands must complete.

The easy bit is done, the hard work now truly begins.
