Everton's strong League Cup trend and what it says for Lincoln match

Everton face Lincoln City on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.

The Blues will travel to Sincil Bank as they take their first step in this season's League Cup competition .

There will be a certain confidence heading into the match given that Marco Silva's men are facing League One opposition.

But as every member of the Goodison faithful will know - the game must be approached with caution while also being played at full tilt to secure a win and progress.

A strong justification for any Everton confidence heading to the game can be taken from the fact that the Blues have lost just two of their last 19 away League Cup games against sides from a lower division, having been beaten by Leeds United in September 2012 and then only York City in September 1996 before that.

It shows a very strong club record away from home in the competition and that will be something Silva will of course hope that continues.

The last meeting between Lincoln and Everton was in the FA Cup third round last season, a 2-1 win for the Toffees at Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, Lincoln have not reached the League Cup third round since the 1996/97 season.

So it seems the Blues have just about every historical trend pointing towards them getting a win.
