Everton's Richarlison accused of 'going to ground quickly' by Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has claimed Richarlison goes to ground too easily.

The Saints boss was responding to a question about the decision not the show his defender Jan Bednarek a red card when he brought down the Brazilian as he headed through on goal at Goodison earlier this evening.

Hasenhuttl, whose side had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Everton after being pegged back by Richarlison's strike just before the break, says Bednarek won the ball and that the award of a yellow card - and a free-kick on the edge of the area - was the wrong decision.

The VAR reviewed Lee Mason's call but decided Bednarek had not prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity and so a caution would suffice.

Hasenhuttl strongly disagreed and the Southampton manager then turned his answer into a dig at Richarlison.

He said: "I think, for me, it was only clear that he plays the ball.

"I can't understand why this is a foul.  With him, he goes quick down on the ground and we have to handle this.

"We didn't give him a lot of chances."

Richarlison, who scored his 12th league goal of the season, was fouled four times during the 1-1 draw - as many as any other player.

Speaking about Southampton's dominance of the first-half, Hasenhuttl also said: "I have never seen an Everton side struggle so much like this here at Goodison."
