Everton's representation at emergency Premier League meeting confirmed as squad begin self-isolation

Chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale will represent Everton on an emergency call with the Premier League this morning.

A phone conference of all 20 clubs will take place at around 10:30 after league officials acted in the light of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta testing positive last night.

It is expected that the escalating scale of the coronavirus outbreak - which has seen Everton send their first-team squad and coaching staff into self-isolation today after a player reported symptoms - will result in the Premier League being suspended.

Last night Everton were planning to stage Monday’s Merseyside derby as usual but the situation changed less than an hour after the Premier League had confirmed the weekend’s games would go ahead as planned.

Barrett-Baxendale will be on the line with her counterparts at the other 19 clubs later this morning as officials are expected to agree to a suspension of the competition.

As a precaution, Everton have today closed down Finch Farm as well as workspaces at the Royal Liver Building and at Goodison.
