Everton's Rafa Benitez hope as new manager talks continue

Rafa Benitez is still in pole position to become the new manager of Everton.

The Blues' search for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti now moves into a fourth week but Benitez is the firm favourite to take over at Goodison.

Everton chiefs were hoping to conclude the process by the early part of this week but talks are on-going.

The Blues remain keen on Benitez, 61, despite a backlash from many supporters who are against the club appointing the ex-Liverpool boss.

Nuno Espirito Santo, David Moyes, Roberto Martinez and Graham Potter have also been considered for the position but Benitez is leading the race.

Everton are looking to appoint a fifth manager in as many years following Ancelotti's shock exit for Real Madrid on June 1.

The Blues confirmed that whoever lands the job, will take a team to Old Trafford on August 7 to face Manchester United in the squad's final pre-season game of the summer.
