Everton's new stadium must learn from the good and bad of Spurs and West Ham

Tottenham's new stadium looks, well, spectacular.

And seeing their new home – tested for the first time on Sunday with an under-18s game – has only whetted the appetite to see images of how Everton's will look.

Hopefully in the next couple of months we'll get to see the designs of architect Dan Meis and then, later in the year, we'll have the news confirmed that a planning application has been submitted.

New Everton stadium planning application update as further details on Bramley-Moore revealed

Having seen Spurs' new ground I'm going to make the trip down there in May for the final game ofd the season; it'll be great to experience it.

I've no doubt that this summer, if the club can show transfer targets images or models of how the stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock will look, then it will help.

Hopefully they see the stands close to the pitch and not far back like you get at West Ham.

Spurs look like they've done it right whereas we all know that the London Stadium isn't a purpose built venue for football – and it shows.

Part one of Michael Ball's column

Even where the away fans will be situated on Saturday night, there's a strange gap between the two tiers: fans of the same club, in the same stand, yet separated by something like 10 or 15m.

Everton have to learn from what is wrong about where West Ham play and what looks right about Spurs'.

For me, it's all about atmosphere and the club taking what makes Goodison special to the waterfront site.

I can't wait to see what they've come up with.
