Everton's new stadium gets roaring seal of approval from Blues greats

Former Everton players have given a roaring seal of approval after the long-awaited designs of the club's proposed new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock were made public.

Architect Dan Meis revealed his team's illustrations in front of an audience of invited Evertonians at a special event at the Titanic Hotel, near to where the waterfront project is earmarked to be built.

The Blues have made various attempts to relocate from Goodison Park – their home since 1892 – over the past two decades but after a series of previous setbacks, hopes are now high that this will finally be the plan that comes to fruition.

Colorado-born Meis – who was given a standing ovation by those present who had watched his detailed presentation – reiterated his belief that the stadium will happen with a pay-off line of “until the day we open the building.”

His vision for Everton's new home found favour with a series of former greats who have graced Goodison in the past with several choosing just a single word to sum up their ringing endorsement.

Neville Southall , who has made more appearances and won more trophies with the Blues than any other player, declared: “Brilliant.”

His team-mate in Everton's greatest-ever team of the mid-1980s, Peter Reid, who Howard Kendall once described as the club's best post-war signing, simply offered up a celebratory Champagne and four applause emojis while Gary Lineker said: “Wow”.

Heroes from the turn of the Millennium, ECHO columnist Michael Ball and Kevin Campbell, who both played in the last Blues side to triumph at Anfield, responded with “Awesome” plus a thumbs up and more Champagne and applause emojis respectively.
