Everton's new Moise Kean transfer dilemma as club weigh up summer options

As loans go, things couldn't have worked out much better for Moise Kean this season.

Having found opportunities few and far between at Everton after his arrival on Merseyside in the summer of 2019, especially from the beginning of matches, he was keen to make an impact elsewhere.

In fact his scoring record when being named in the Blues starting line-up perhaps should have pointed to the inherent quality the youngster held, he'd bagged in each of his final three starts for the club before leaving on loan in September.

Paris Saint-Germain was the destination, which was a surprise to some at the time.

If opportunities were not forthcoming for the striker at Everton, surely the situation would be the same with the side who finished as runners-up in the Champions League?

However, with Mauro Icardi facing a spell on the sidelines, Kean took his opportunity to get into the Ligue 1 side's starting 11 with both hands.

In 26 league appearances for his loan club, the Everton man bagged an impressive 13 goals - outscoring everyone bar Dominic Calvert-Lewin from his parent side.

It was thought throughout the campaign that this would create somewhat of a dilemma for the Blues.

Should they keep a player who might not be happy with them and hasn't fit into the system previously, but has genuine quality? Or do they sell a star who has all of his best years ahead of him and could go on to hit very high levels?

That issue was seemingly put on the path to solution by the player himself earlier last week.

Taking to Instagram, Kean wrote: "Happy to score in the last game at Parc des Princes, hope to see you next season!"

Unless he's planning on playing against the Parisians in a pre-season friendly over the course of the summer, that won't be happening at Everton.

So, his intentions are clear, and that will no doubt have alerted those at his parent club as they head into what is widely considered to be another crucial transfer window.

Now, the Blues hierarchy are faced with an interesting new dilemma when it comes to Kean.

It's doubtful the striker would have been expected to be back at Finch Farm until following the official end of his loan contract, which is likely to be June 30th.

However, the 21-year-old has already joined up with the Italy squad as they prepare for Euro 2020, meaning any potential return to Everton will be delayed further down the line.

That could, in turn, put the brakes on the decision the Blues will have to make over their player.

It's very unlikely that Kean will be negotiating a permanent transfer while away with Italy's Euro 2020 camp, whether or not PSG or any other club decide to make their move.

Going by some reports over recent weeks as well, Everton's asking price is still a little removed from the figures that have been potentially touted for a permanent transfer.

Another saga could easily be on the cards in this case, regardless of whether the Blues feel it is the right decision for Kean to move on or not.

And any uncertainty over the striker's future at whatever level could easily spill over into other transfer plans.

Will the Blues be as forceful in signing another forward if Kean is still on the books? If the Italian goes then they certainly will need a replacement, with Joshua King highly unlikely to pick up a new deal.

The longer any potential saga over the 21-year-old lasts, surely the more tricky it becomes to source a viable replacement if Kean does move to another club.

Of course, Everton might not have much say in this matter. They will rightly want to hang on for the right price for a player who still has years ahead of him at the top level.

The club just can't allow themselves to be in a similar situation as the one they found themselves in this term.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has proven himself to be a quality striker and is still improving, but he can't be the only man up front for Everton. Richarlison is a viable replacement at times, but the Blues need an out-and-out striker as back-up.

Whether that will be Kean or not is still technically up in the air, but it doesn't seem like a scenario that will be solved any time soon.

This might allow the Blues to focus on other priorities for the time-being, but they can't forget about their striking situation.
