Everton's new manager search update as latest timescale confirmed

Everton expect their search for a new manager to extend into next week, the ECHO understands.

The Blues are 10 days into a hunt for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti who sensationally quit Goodison in order to return to Real Madrid. Everton are now working through a short-list of candidates but the process is now likely to stretch into next week.

The club's last two manager searches have taken just over two weeks to complete and the hope is that a breakthrough will have been made at a similar point in this pursuit of a new boss.

But Everton are refusing to rush the appointment - described as a 'big decision' by figures at Goodison.

And the club are determined to be as thorough as possible, despite the difficult position Ancelotti's exit has left them in.

Director of Football Marcel Brands was inundated with the names of applicants in the 24 hours following the Italian's decision to leave but the club have been working on a smaller list of hopefuls since the middle of last week.

But Everton have been undertaking due diligence on a clutch of candidates and do not expect to be in a position to confirm a new manager until next week, at the earliest.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Graham Potter and whole host of other names continue to be linked to the vacant position at Goodison with, as of earlier this week, no stand-out candidate emerging.
