Everton's managerial troubles put into stark context as Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid talks continue

Carlo Ancelotti has shocked Everton and supporters by edging closer to a return to Real Madrid.

On Monday evening, reports circulated in a number of Spanish outlets that the La Liga giants had been in contact with their former manager over coming back to the Bernabeu following the departure of Zinedine Zidane.

And, as Tuesday progressed, it became clear that the Italian was edging closer and closer to a return to Los Blancos, leaving Everton with yet another managerial search on their hands.

Since the long-term tenure of David Moyes came to a close in 2013, and the relatively sizeable spell of just under three years for Roberto Martinez straight afterwards, the Blues have gone through a lot of managers.

And, as talk of Ancelotti 's departure continues to spread around social media, Twitter account EFC Statto put the club's recent managerial issues into stark context.

Out of the club's last four permanent managers, if the Italian is to leave, then he would only be the second longest-serving - behind his predecessor Marco Silva.

Ronald Koeman lasted just a year and 131 days as Everton boss, while Sam Allardyce reached only 167 days before being given the sack in 2018.

In between some of those spells, the Blues had interim periods with David Unsworth and Duncan Ferguson at the helm.

Everton supporters have been waiting too long for a long-term manager again, that's for certain.
