Leighton Baines expects to be available for the European Championship this summer despite suffering a hamstring tear that threatens the remainder of his season with Everton.

The England defender has been diagnosed with a grade two tear after pulling up during the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Liverpool on Saturday. The 27-year-old could be sidelined for four weeks, bringing his domestic season to a premature end, but is targeting a return against Newcastle United on the final day and should be fully recovered ahead of Euro 2012.

Baines had made 99 consecutive league appearances for Everton until being rested against Sunderland in readiness for the FA Cup semi-final.

The absence of the left-back, who is Everton's second leading goalscorer this season with five goals, means Phil Neville is likely to be asked by David Moyes to fill that role against his former club, Manchester United, on Sunday.
