Everton's Josh Bowler opens up on Hull City loan as youngster awaits first Championship start

Josh Bowler is staying confident about his loan spell at Hull City despite still waiting on his first league start for his new club.

The Everton youngster completed a temporary switch to the Championship in the summer after playing a crucial role in David Unsworth's U23s winning the double in 2018/19.

His impressive performances earned him a move, but they haven't yet yielded a place in Grant McCann's starting lineup for a league match - with the 20-year-old instead making eight appearances from the bench.

The winger did make two starts for his new club in the League Cup against Tranmere Rovers and Preston, but has been told by his boss that his chance in the Championship will come.

The Blues man has so far been kept out of the side by Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen who are both influential figures for the Tigers.

But Bowler isn't worried about a lack of starts thus far, and knows he is still learning valuable lessons during his time away from Goodison Park.

"I’m still only 20 years old and getting Championship minutes so that’s a positive," Bowler told reporters .

"I speak with the gaffer all the time and he says my chance is coming. If I come off the bench I try and make a difference.

"It’s hard with two of the best wingers in the Championship in our team but that will only improve me as a player.

"I pick their brains and watch them play, trying to add things to my game. I’m just trying to build my game by watching them. I want to become a better player and use that to my advantage.

"The manager puts a lot of confidence in me and I’m a confidence player. It’s great to have a manager like that, a manager who believes in me. Hopefully when I get my chance I can take it."
