Everton's Jess Park earns England call up as Gabby George decision made

Everton forward Jess Park has been included in Sarina Wiegman's squad for England's upcoming internationals against Brazil and Australia.

The 21-year-old - who is on loan at Walton Hall Park from Manchester City - has been a standout performer for the Blues this term, having notched five goals and three assists in all competitions. Park's superb form earned her a first senior international call up in the autumn, and she scored just 79 seconds after making her debut in November's 4-0 victory over Japan.

Park made her first England start in February's Arnold Clark Cup meeting with Italy and looks very much in contention to feature in Wiegman's 23-player squad for this summer's Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Everton teammate Gabby George, however, has been omitted from the Lionesses squad for the second consecutive international window.

The defender, who got Everton off the mark in last week's Merseyside derby, has enjoyed an impressive season at club level and was named the Women's Super League Player of the Month in January but now looks unlikely to be on the plane to the World Cup

The Lionesses will ramp up their preparations for this summer's tournament when they host Brazil in the inaugural Women's Finalissima on April 6. The reigning Copa América Femenina champions are ranked ninth in the world and will likely prove stern opposition as England bid to make it 30 games unbeaten under Wiegman in front of 89,000 fans at Wembley.

They will then continue their World Cup preparations by welcoming co-hosts Australia to Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium for an Alzheimer’s Society International on April 11.

The Lionesses, who have never won the World Cup, are among the favourites to triumph at this year's showpiece event following their victory at last summer's EUROs. However, they will face stern competition from the likes of Germany - who they beat in the EUROs Final - and reigning World Champions, USA.
