Everton's injury woes worsen as Richarlison and Andros Townsend problems confirmed

Everton's injury woes are deepening with the news Richarlison faces a "number of weeks" out and Andros Townsend has sustained a serious foot problem.

Seamus Coleman is also a major doubt for Thursday night's game with Chelsea.

Brazilian forward Richarlison came off just before the hour mark against Crystal Palace on Sunday with a calf problem, which has now been confirmed as a tear.

Townsend, meanwhile, has suffered a "small fracture" in his foot and is due to undergo an x-ray later this week to determine the full extent of the problem.

Coleman suffered "bone bruising and soft tissue damage" the club have confirmed, in the game with Palace.

Rafa Benitez's decision to bring Richarlison off provoked an angry reaction from many in the away end at Selhurst Park but the Everton boss later explained that the £35m man was injured.

Benitez had wanted to bring Richarlison off at half-time but the 24-year-old insisted he could carry on but after less than 15 minutes of the second-half, he was replaced by Salomon Rondon.

And if the injury is as bad as feared, then Richarlison would miss Thursday's game with Chelsea and then potentially be out for the matches with Leicester City, Burnley and possibly the clash with Newcastle too.

Everton are not expecting to have Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit again until after Christmas which leaves only Rondon, who came off the bench to score against Palace, and Cenk Tosun as the squad's senior strikers.

It is unclear how long Townsend will be out for but the injury to the summer recruit compounds Everton's misery.
