Everton's Europa League hopes are officially over

Everton's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League are over.

Wolves' 1-0 win over Fulham at Molineux this afternoon tightened their grip on seventh place - and a likely route into Europe next season.

The Blues were hoping their chase would go to the final game of the season but they needed Nuno Espirito Santo's side to drop points today.

However Leander Dendoncker's 75th minute strike edged Wolves in front and handed them the victory which keeps them in pole position.

Should Manchester City defeat Watford in the FA Cup final later this month then whoever finishes seventh will qualify for the Europa League.

Wolves now have 57 points with the Blues, in eighth, four points worse off and unable to close the gap with one game to go.

Leicester City are the only team who can catch the promoted side now but they face Manchester City and Chelsea in their remaining two games.

Everton manager Marco Silva admitted finishing seventh had become "really difficult" following last weekend's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

And though the Blues eased past Burnley at Goodison to put the pressure back on Wolves, their victory over Fulham today has extinguished any hope.
