Everton's Andre Gomes leaves hospital to begin rehabilitation after operation on broken ankle

Andre Gomes has been discharged from hospital following surgery on his broken ankle.

The Everton midfielder had an operation on Monday - described as "successful" by the club - and will now continue his rehabilitation with the Blues' medical team at Finch Farm.

Gomes was taken to Aintree Hospital on Sunday night after he suffered a fracture dislocation in his right ankle during the second-half of the game with Spurs at Goodison.

Everton have yet to put a timescale on the 26-year-old's recovery but he is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Gomes suffered the horror injury after trying to regain his footing following a foul by Spurs forward Son Heung-min.

Manager Marco Silva said: "Andre will have all the support he needs. I am 100% sure he will become stronger as a football player and a man.

"He is a fantastic man and a fantastic professional. Our players are sad but the spirit we showed was a good answer."
