Everton rocked by double injury blow ahead of Leeds United Premier League clash

Leeds United play Everton at the end of August, and Frank Lampard has confirmed that the Toffees have picked up two defensive injuries which could keep key personnel out of the clash at Elland Road.

Lampard was speaking after Everton kicked-off their Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Chelsea. Defensive duo Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina were both forced off with injuries in the narrow loss.

Everton were one of Leeds' main rivals in the fight to avoid relegation last season, and many are tipping the two clubs to be close to each other in the table again. Leeds host Everton at Elland Road on Tuesday, August 30, and Lampard has already ruled Godfrey out of the clash.

"Ben got that injury, and we think it's a small fracture of his leg - his fibula," said Lampard.

"We have to assess how long that'll take, but we're expecting probably months rather than weeks.

"Yerry has got an ankle injury that we don't know much about at the moment.

"They're not muscle injuries, they're freak injuries, so we have to make sure the squad is strong enough to handle those things."

Another key Toffees player who will miss the game at Elland Road is striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been ruled out for six weeks through injury.
