Everton have released a statement confirming they are assisting Merseyside Police after a flare was placed on the statue of club legend Dixie Dean.
The club also revealed that the memorial and the floral tributes lying underneath had thankfully suffered no permanent damage during the incident.
Video footage shared on social media on Monday afternoon caused outrage across the city and showed a burning flare above numerous floral tributes.
The flare is believed to have been left on the beloved statue of the Blues legend in the early hours of Sunday morning before burning out.
The area outside Goodison Park is one in which many supporters lay flowers and wreaths to loved ones they have lost.

The Blues released a statement on Monday night urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
It read: "Everton is assisting Merseyside Police with enquiries in relation to a flare ignited on the Dixie Dean statue outside Goodison Park.
"We encourage anyone with information relating to this disappointing and disrespectful incident to contact Merseyside Police.
"Following inspection - and cleaning of the memorial and the site - we can thankfully confirm no permanent damage has been done to the statue of our greatest-ever goalscorer - or the floral tributes laid at the foot of the statue."
