Everton register interest in James Carragher but sticking point emerges over deal

Everton are interested in signing James Carragher from Wigan Athletic - but the clubs are currently far apart in their valuation of the player.

Carragher, the son of former Liverpool defender Jamie, is out of contract at the DW Stadium this summer.

But the Latics would be due compensation for the 18-year-old defender if a move elsewhere was agreed.

Everton are in talks with Wigan over signing the centre-back, who would join the club's under-23s set-up if a deal can be done.

But the ECHO understands that the League One club would have to lower their demands for the Blues to take their interest further, at this stage.

Carragher started his youth career with Liverpool but left Anfield to join Wigan in 2017 and is now on Everton's radar.

Wigan last summer sold two of their most highly thought of Academy players, with Alfie Devine going to Spurs and Joe Gelhardt signing for Leeds.
