Middlesborough have approached Everton about taking Yannick Bolasie on loan - but a deal looks unlikely to be agreed at this stage.
The domestic window remains open until 5pm today and allows Premier League and EFL clubs to do business with each other.
Boro, managed by Neil Warnock, have enquired about signing Bolasie.
But there is not much hope that the two clubs can agree on how his wages would be shared for the duration of the loan.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed, before the international break, that Bolasie did not feature in his plans for the season and that he was free to find a new club.
The 31-year-old is into the final year of his contract and today is the final day he could secure a domestic move.
But the transfer window in Russia is open until tomorrow while the Portuguese market is active until October 25.
It may still be a busy day for Everton ahead of the deadline this afternoon.
Several other fringe players could be on the hunt for a switch on loan or on a permanent basis, including Muhamed Besic and a number of youngsters currently with the u23s.
