Everton ready to loan out goalkeeper after Manchester United friendly absence

Everton are ready to send goalkeeper Joao Virginia out on loan.

The 21-year-old was not included in the squad for the Blues' friendly with Manchester United today, with a move away from Goodison now on the cards.

Virginia is attracting interest from Championship clubs, as well from abroad, it is understood and Everton are now willing to sanction a short-term departure from the club.

Rafa Benitez included three goalkeepers in his squad for the warm-up game at Old Trafford today, with the returning Jordan Pickford starting the game and Asmir Begovic and Harry Tyrer named on the bench.

Pickford, who spilled a header from Lucas Digne to gift United the opening goal, came off at half-time and was replaced by Begovic.

Virginia made his first-team debut last season, replacing the injured Pickford in the league match with Burnley and then starting against Manchester City, a week later, in the FA Cup.

The Portuguese youth international will hope for better loan than the one he experienced at Reading in 2019 where he was quickly frozen out and made only three appearances before being recalled in the January window.
