Everton Rafa Benitez new manager deal edges closer as pre-season plans fall in place

Everton are continuing to work on a deal that would see Rafa Benitez named the club's new manager.

The Blues have remained tight-lipped on the prospect of the Spaniard replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who left for Real Madrid on June 1.

Confirmation of Benitez's appointment is not imminent but the 61-year-old remains in deep discussions with the club as Everton look to appoint a fifth permanent manager in as many years.

Benitez, should he take charge at Goodison, will welcome some of the Everton squad back to Finch Farm on Monday, July 5 before the club's international players return later in the summer.

Everton have, so far, confirmed three pre-season friendlies. The Blues will play twice next month in the Florida Cup in Orlando before an August 7 warm-up match against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
